So what are you, a website builder or a digital agency?

A lot of blue, square Lego blocks

This question often arises during the first conversation with our potential clients. The answer is that we are both or neither. As a technical partner, we are right in between and combine "the best of both worlds."

Our focus is entirely on the user experience of visitors and editors. We believe that websites should be focused on content. On the story that needs to be told and the information that needs to be shared. That the content can be found and read in a way that is as easy as possible for the visitor.

In a next blog titled "SaaS is the future", we will explain how we differ from digital agencies. For now, we will first compare ourselves with different website builders.

Existing website builders are complicated

Before we started developing TwelveBricks, we looked at the website builders already on the market. There are many of them, like Wix, Duda, Squarespace and Elementor (a well-known WordPress plugin). They are all powerful and flexible platforms that can be used to create really good websites.

Because they are very flexible, they offer many choices to the users. An endless set of options to configure elements. For example, they can adjust the font, size, and color of each word. This allows editors to adjust the design according to their own insights. But isn't that what the design agency was hired for?

If multiple editors are active on a website, the initial design, consistency, and accessibility can quickly deteriorate. This can be detrimental to user-friendliness and even affect the credibility of the content.

Usability comes first

Like website builders, TwelveBricks allows you to create a website according to your own wishes using available building blocks. The website will be hosted on our stable, secure, powerful platform for a fixed monthly fee. So far, nothing new.

Where we make a difference is that we do not confuse editors with an endless set of options. The design is fixed, and we ensure that the design is consistently implemented on all available variants of our building blocks. Editors don't have to worry about the design and can trust that their content will always look good. Of course, we offer a lot of freedom to combine the various fixed components. However, we have deliberately chosen not to offer infinite options for every piece of text.

This way, everyone can do what he/she is good at. The designer creates a beautiful design, the editors provide clear content, and we arrange the technology to make it all come together.

The big winner? That is the visitor to the website, as it should be.
