August 6, 2024 Schema.org at TwelveBricks
In the upcoming version of TwelveBricks, I've been focusing on integrating support for schema.org. This enhancement will bring significant benefits to our platform and users. But what exactly is schema.org, and why is it important for search engines?
What exactly is it?
Schema.org is a collaborative project supported by major search engines like Google and Bing. Its purpose is to structure data on web pages, enabling search engines to understand the content better. This improved understanding leads to more accurate and enriched search results.
What are the benefits?
By adding schema information, search engines can display additional details in search results, making your pages stand out and attracting more clicks. Additionally, schema data helps search engines grasp the context of your content more effectively, resulting in more relevant search results. This, in turn, increases the likelihood of users visiting your website.
While adding schema information doesn’t directly improve your website’s ranking, it does enhance the richness of search results, leading to higher click-through rates. Over time, these richer results can positively influence your website’s position in search rankings.
How do we implement the schema information at TwelveBricks?
Finding practical examples was initially challenging, as much of the online information is quite general, and relatively few websites have fully embraced this technology. However, this gives TwelveBricks a unique advantage!
After extensive research, we have identified the most relevant schema types for all our websites:
- Organization/Brand: For company information such as contact details, address and logo.
- Web page: For information about web pages, such as title, description and language.
- Event: For information about events, such as date, location and tickets.
- Product: For product information such as prices and reviews.
- BlogPosting/NewsArticle/Article: For information about blogs, news and articles.
- Person: For contact information for authors or other people on a page.
The Organization/Brand/Webpage data is added to all pages. The more specific schema information can be chosen per content type. We're also laying the groundwork for incorporating more specialized sub-types as needed. Adding schema.org data is a significant advancement in our SEO efforts.
By structuring our clients' content more effectively and making it more accessible to search engines, we enhance the visibility and ranking of their websites. This is something we're really excited about!
